Devotion to Others Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Reading today in Romans 12 I found this:

10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

The love of our brothers and sisters in Christ is spoken of throughout the Scriptures. John 13 indicates it the mark that the world will recognize that we belong to Him.

This devotion must be deeper than lip service. Love has a level of concern which demonstrations its devotion.

The Faith of others. Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

The faith of those in chapter 11 should be a witness to us, they trusted God’s plan and looked ahead to Christ, we now have the testimony about Christ’s life, death and resurrection for our sins, He is worthy of our faith so “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,” “who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Seek the good of others. Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

I Corinthians 10:24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
We need to put the needs of others before our own needs.

Help From the Manufacturer Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

This morning when I arrived at the office I was reminded that the copier was not working by the note stuck to the front of it. So I was wondering if I would be able to copy the things I needed today. The code was L - 1. L could mean light. Maybe the scanner bulb needed replacing. A quick search online and I found the manufacturer indicated that L means the scanner bar is locked. Turn the unlock knob and it works! The lesson ... The manufacturer knows more than I do.

Today's bible reading is in Psalms 119:73-80. Verse 73 says:
73 Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.

We all need a little help from the manufacturer.

God will give you a heart of flesh. Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

God has made a covenant with Israel through Abraham and will keep His promise even today and in the future. The land Israel is in was given to them by God. “I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.” “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

We don’t deserve God’s compassion. Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

II Kings 14:26 The Lord had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether salve or free, was suffering; there was no one to help them. And since the Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
The people in Israel had turned from God but the Lord had compassion on them anyway. We don’t deserve God’s compassion either but God saved us by His grace.

The extent of honor for God's Word Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Psalm 119:33-34 gives the extent of honor the psalmist has for Word of God. He desires to keep it, not temporarily, but to the end. He desires to follow it not partly, whole heartedly. This is the proper esteem we should have in order to do what the Word says and glorify God.

33 Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees;
then I will keep them to the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law
and obey it with all my heart.

Keep Memorizing Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Psalm 119:11 gives us a good reminder to keep working on our memorization of Scripture. It says, "11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you."

Surely our church project of memorizing Psalm 139 can have this affect. Keep working on it or if you have not started, why not start today?

The Lord's way brings blessings. Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Following our own desires without regard to the Lord’s Word will not lead to the Lord’s blessing. Here, as I think we also do at times, the people saw this as the Lord being unjust. “'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?'” “Yet, O house of Israel, you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But I will judge each of you according to his own ways." “My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.” "When all this comes true-- and it surely will-- then they will know that a prophet has been among them."

When we seek advice, seek it from the Lord. Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

I Kings 12:8 But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.
When we seek advice, it should be from people who are following the Lord and not worldly people.
