| The Faith of others. |
The faith of those in chapter 11 should be a witness to us, they trusted God’s plan and looked ahead to Christ, we now have the testimony about Christ’s life, death and resurrection for our sins, He is worthy of our faith so “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,” “who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. | The Lord's way brings blessings. |
Following our own desires without regard to the Lord’s Word will not lead to the Lord’s blessing. Here, as I think we also do at times, the people saw this as the Lord being unjust. “'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?'” “Yet, O house of Israel, you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But I will judge each of you according to his own ways." “My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.” "When all this comes true-- and it surely will-- then they will know that a prophet has been among them."
